Hello my name is Jullian Best, and I’m from Lincoln, Nebraska. And I am currently a freshman at Graceland University located in Lamoni, Iowa. I came to this school on scholarship to play for the basketball team, meaning I don’t have a lot of free time when it comes to my day to day life. And for me to be an out of state student that means that I didn’t know anyone else at this college. And I was nervous even leaving home by myself.
Starting A New Beginning
Well let me tell you it wasn’t easy leaving home, where all my friends and family were. Even though I was three hours away from them, it still felt so far away. My first day at GU I meet my new roommate, and the rest of the basketball team. Getting to know so many new people from different places was pretty awesome. Meeting other people outside of the team and my roommate was a little difficult for me, as I literally knew nobody. But I’ll tell you right now, it got easier as the year went on.
Learning My Schedule
Starting class for the semester was nothing new. It was just like high school, you get your syllabus and the teacher gets to know the names of the class. My first semester schedule was full of early classes where I was waking up at 8 am and having classes till 12 pm. It was pretty hard waking up early to go to my classes because, I was always tired from basketball practice. As second semester came along I had class later in the day which help me catch up on my sleep schedule. But overall it wasn’t to bad waking up early as you got to start your day early and if you were still tired you could just take a nap right after, which is always nice.
